@jojo: when you’re talking about wait times, the system is broken. Waiting for people to die is not healthcare, especially if you’re asking money (taxes) for the privilege. If government healthcare was better, there would be no wait times, costs would be lower, no such system exists however, medical tourism only happens in a few places in the world and those are universally private systems.

Why would anyone not want it available for free- or low cost, to everyone

Because that’s a myth. Hospitals are expensive places to run, someone has to pay for it. If the government pays for it, that really means that you are paying for it through several middle men so it becomes much more expensive, the only way to cut cost is then to ration health care which is what UK, Canada, Australia and EU does, if you’re 80 you’re cut off, if you’re too unhealthy you’re cut off and if the treatment is too expensive, then we propose alternatives (eg forced euthanasia, amputation, marijuana and other non-medicinal drugs, concentration camps for COVID etc).

The question is why would you entrust your healthcare to a corrupt government system. If you’re talking about private/public systems, you’re paying twice, once for the public system and then again for the private system and because not everyone is in the private system, it ends up being much more expensive which is why people unilaterally go to the US for care.

im not an atheist, makes no mathematical sense, nor does the buy(more) bull(shit) god make any logical sense... maybe a deist on my best day, in the end you cannot get something from nothing, paradox if you ask me... but in reality i just dont care.

while in, and moving out of the cult, its like a roller coaster, emotionally, yet, for me, over time, i just take it one day at a time, and if appeasing some special deity is required, well i guess i failed.

There are Bible scriptures where God metes out punishment way worse than what Jesus and other people in the Roman world went through. Romans were rather “humane” in comparison. I think Job went through torture worse than Jesus, lost 7 children so God can settle a bet. There are many people that died worse deaths across time, crucifixion was rather common.

You’re saying however that God killing himself, dying earlier than the robbers on his sides and then resurrecting himself 3 days is somehow sufficient to make up for killing thousands and thousands of people. That just doesn’t match, an eye for an eye, Jesus should thus die a thousand times and remain dead afterwards.

Not true. Unlike the EU/UK, hospitals cannot refuse to provide treatment due to lack of payment. I work in the upper echelons of a major healthcare system, unpaid treatment is a major headache.

Anyone can go bankrupt, that’s a good thing as protections from creditors to garnish wages enter in when you are bankrupted. You do have to be pretty irresponsible to go bankrupt though over anything.

Another partial myth. Most people die due to unreasonably rationing their insulin because of myths that are perpetuated about insulin. Almost all cases of insulin deaths are avoidable and parents have gone to jail for ultimately being stupid or abusive about it.

You, with few exceptions, can get very cheap insulin. Go to any vet and insulin is $25/bottle which would provide a human with 30 days of doses. This is the same insulin that was widely used until the early 2000s and still widely used in second and third world countries. If you need auto-injectors there are various open projects for 3D printing those, FDA regulation however prevents the general public from knowing about them. Importing animal derived insulin abroad is an option.

The primary problem right now is lack of human derived insulin, something that was marketed towards diabetics as somehow superior (in all but the rarest cases that is untrue) and Joe Biden recently made it so that insulin has a capped price (similar to EU style regulation), causing all but the largest manufacturers to exit the market both in the US and in the EU - the US market had been subsidizing EU consumption of the product, but the price caps are unreasonably low making even production infeasible which is causing a worldwide shortage and soon human insulin will likely become completely unavailable.

For about 90% of diabetics however (the people with adult onset type 2) proper diet and exercise would suffice.

Fact check: 12% of GDP is spent in the UK on healthcare, 18% of GDP is spend in the US on healthcare. As I already pointed out, the US has free government healthcare for low income (<$50k/person) households and many states have expanded access beyond that. With the exception of wealth diseases (heart and diabetes) outcomes are overall better in the US across the board.

So the US already spends more on government healthcare, when you break down what it is spent on R&D makes up much of that value in the US. More than 50% of new medicines in the world are funded by the US government.

At the end of November, a record 7.2 millionpatients in England were waiting for non-urgent medical treatment on the NHS, known as “elective” care. This spans diagnostic tests and scans, procedures such as hip and knee replacements, but also cardiac surgery, cancer treatment and neurosurgery.

More than half of those on the list had been waiting up to 18 weeks and about 400,000 patients had been waiting more than a year, according to data from NHS England.

To avoid joining a waiting list, more and more people are paying for their own private medical care or taking out health insurance.

In the second quarter of 2022, the number of patients paying directly for private hospital care increased 34% compared with the same period in 2019 to reach 67,000, according to the Private Healthcare Information Network, which collects data on UK private healthcare.

The figures revealed a 184% jump in the number of people paying privately for hip replacements over that period, a 153% increase in self-pay for knee replacements and a 42% rise in private cataract surgery.

US North East filled with Smoke Hazardous breathing warnings!

It’s mostly over now. But it kind of looked like the end of the world for a while there, the sun and sky looked like blood at certain times, the sun was practically gone for 2 days. Like California, caused by years of severe government mismanagement of their forests by our northern neighbors.

i'm sure this will vary between jw to jw, but their choices are:.

1) they won't watch/read either.. 2) they will only allow lotr, not hp.. 3) they will only allow hp, not lotr.. 4) they will allow both.. in my experience, 3 never happens and 2 happens the most.

with the similar theme of magic, the occult, fantasy and monsters, i wonder what lets them think one is okay and the other is not.

Interesting, in most congregations I was in both were big no-no but adjacent congregations were fine as long as you kept quiet about. Then again, I remember HP was called out at the convention (not by name) for being dangerous and targeting children with spiritism.

How about comedies like Life of Brian or Religulous. They are making fun of common Christian narratives and I think that most people would have problems with those than whether or not fantasy/demons/magic is allowed.

False humility is a typical sign of narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths. Russell was credibly accused of swindling people and subsequently indicted for fraud. You can’t sell things like Miracle Wheat without selling yourself.

i'll start by stating the obvious... according to the watchtower, the catholic church is a huge part of babylon the great which is led by satan and his demons.

raymundus martini, a catholic monk (who "represents" babylon the great to some extent), woke up one day in the 13th century and decided to alter yhwh so it can be easily pronounced.

hence the spanish-ish version of yhwh was created... jehova... (sounds something like this in spanish: heh-o-va).

@careful: the point is not that they do, the point is the hypocrisy especially given the things we now know from historical records, both about gods name and the original Christians. If you claim to be a ‘first century Christian’ then you should do things like first century Christianity, which is a lot closer to Judaism, very likely doesn’t use God’s name and doesn’t really have the same concept about the modern Christus. The fact is that they have taken most of third century Christianity (Catholicism) when it comes to canon together with a form of 19th century Protestantism (Millerism) but simultaneously rejecting the core tenets of all in an attempt to set them apart making themselves internally contradictory and incomprehensible.

The JWs also use Babylon the Great’s biblical canon, despite knowing full well and even devoting entire articles in their rags to the church significantly editing out scriptures to fit their own dogma. If you want the scriptures from the “true” first Christians as they often claim to be extension from, they would include many, many Christian scripture written between 200BC-400AD that may be very problematic to explain literally and also torpedoes most of their own dogma.
